The bad teacher tells the good teacher in one scene: "You were a zero, are a zero, and will always be zero." The tables are turned, as expected, on the villain by the time the film comes to an end. By then, Aarakshan stops adding up.
First of all, the title is misleading.

‘Aarakshan’ is all about the story of Dr. Prabhakar Anand (Amitabh Bachchan) who is the principle of one of the best colleges in India, since 30 years, and he has set some idealistic principles and disciplines too. Everything would be going for a while, but his comments on the law of reservation land him in trouble and they grow even to certain extent that lands him up being homeless. The Story revolves around how Prabahkar’s principles make him undergo a lot of problems and what would be the solution for all these. The rest of the characters like that of Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, Prateik Babbar and Manoj Baajpai and others help the story to run forward

Aarakshan is just an average affair. Could've been shorter and better.

The controversial Aarakshan released today and frankly, we didn’t see anything in the movie that would justify a ban. Controversies aside, Aarakshan is directed by Prakash Jha who last directed Rajneethi, a box office blockbuster.

Aarakshan is an average entertainer. The long first weekend will prove very beneficial for the film's business. If the ban is lifted, the publicity that would follow would help the film's collections to take a big hike.

Ascurtains come down for the film, you end up wondering whether 'Aarakshan' was indeed about reservation. Or was it about caste system? Or was it about capitation fees? Or was it about coaching centres blooming across the country? Or was it about commercialisation of education? Or was it eventually about the saga of 'kisme kitna hai dum'? Now it's sad to have such questions cropping up since as a subject and genre, this was just the kind of territory that one expects Prakash Jha to excel in film after film.
