Sonakshi Sinha can’t save this film alone
There isn't much scope for nuance here but she has an emotional depth, which surfaces occasionally
I do hope though that we’ll see Sonakshi play to her strengths more often. There isn’t much scope for nuance here but she has an emotional depth that surfaces occasionally. I would love to see more of that.

Built on Weak Script, It's a Bore
Sonakshi Sinha plays Akira, a girl who has been taught to stand up to bullies from her childhood. She stands in the way of a bunch of crooked cops headed by Anurag Kashyap. What unfolds keeps you hooked for one hundred and thirty eight minutes. As they say, 'Full Paisa Vasool!'
Sonakshi moves, feels and looks the part in an effort that's empty heft because the script is extraordinarily dated and bereft of punch
This Sonakshi Sinha starrer has a few enjoyable moments but ultimately sabotages itself.
The film certainly has its moments, and Sonakshi does her career no harm by revealing a new facet of herself, but Akira isn't blockbuster material.

Breaking stereotypes is the best way to creating a good film. So AR Murugadoss' Akira puts a spin on the action-thriller genre by substituting a traditional male hero with an off-kilter female protagonist. But just like the hero, she can fight, rebel and give the bad guys a taste of their own medicine. Akira is the film you’d make to even the playing field for gender equality. A film that treats its ladies as people and not just victims of a male dominated world. It has an unmistakable formulaic approach but it works out alright.
The result is a tonally confused mess that left me mostly stupefied, and frankly glad that I didn't spend my own money on a ticket this time. Poor acting, poor action, embarrassing writing, and lazy plotting sink this film almost before it gets started, but by the time the credits roll, you'll just be glad it's over.
