BHAM BOLENATH - Movie Reviews

Bum Bholenath had offbeat one line idea behind it but the execution of two hour plus can’t stand up only by it. It needed more umph and few surprising elements. The fault lies in the script and the screenplay. The gags are not funny enough and many situations are randomly crushed in the narrative for comic relief. On the whole, it’s recommended that you skip Bum Bholenath and wait for March releases.

Debutante Karthik Varma came with good concept but except for that he has nothing to showcase on silver screen. His amateurism was highlighted in all scenes and he failed miserably with his screenplay and direction.

Like many of modern day cinemas releasing every week, story is wafer thin and there was more of demand to add quality treatment with a tight screenplay. Karthik Varma had set a strong premise to execute bundles of fun with confusion and hurry-burry comedy. Apparently, he was lacking in those pinching surprise elements needed to run the narration. Second half drags and drags to offer a boring experience. Even the climax was not so effective. In difference, interval block was well executed.

Bham Bolenath is a dark comedy in thriller genre. A kind of genre Telugu audiences are not accustomed with. At the same time, it’s not a gritty thriller like those in British/Hollywood films. There are quite a few entertaining moments. But, we have to wait and see if the dark nature of this film (drugs abuse etc) offends the sensibilities of an average Telugu movie goer. On a whole, Bham Bolenath is not a bad movie, but a quirky comedy that Telugu audiences are not exposed to.

It is pretty clear that the director didn't work on developing the script. He went on to make a movie with an idea that has some interesting elements in it. Bham Bolenath could have been a better black comedy if the director has taken care about developing the characters. There is scope for an arresting screenplay, but Bham Bolenath falls flat despite showing some flashes of hope in parts.

On the whole, Bham Bholenath has a few engaging moments. Interesting set up and situational comedy are basic plus points. On the flip side, a dragged out and illogical climax spoils the fun. All those who like to watch crime comedies might end up liking it, but the rest can watch it if they have absolutely nothing else to do

Good attempt by the actors but this flick may not be considered as a good attempt by the film maker.

For example, four main characters in the film are drug addicts. Probably, Karthik Varma wanted to make a film on the lines of Hollywood flicks where drug addiction and heist episodes are shown without being judgmental. But if that was his mission, he should have worked on his screenplay and plot.

Writer and director, Karthik Varma Dandu has a flair for writing cool stuff, but it's the filmmaking itself which doesn't translate what seems to have been in the script. At a runtime of just over a couple of hours, Bham Bholenath had everything going to be a taut crime comedy thriller. Yet, it feels like a joint which drags in the end.
