Massu Engira Masilamani comes with the tagline ‘A Venkat Prabhu Sixer.’ If this is a reference to Massu being the director’s sixth film, then fine. But if it’s a clearing-the-boundary cry, then sorry, there are a hundred fielders out there, palms cupped, looking at the sky

It was formally structured and scripted, and so moving and funny that it appeared a new voice had emerged

Rakshasudu is a different movie in many ways. Not many directors have attempted this kind of movie in the past. Mixing various genres into one film that has a commercial base plot is not as easy as it appears. Venkat Prabhu must have done lot of work on the script front to develop this idea into what it has turned out to be. Rakshasudu throws many surprises and keeps the viewers guessing.
Despite its flaws, Venkat Prabhu made a perfect potboiler with a great mix of mass elements and entertainment. One to mention, it's a Suriya's show all the way and the special bonus makes it worth a watch.
At the box office front, the movie gets good openings due to Suriya's image and the powerful title, which is also Megastar Chiranjeevi's popular film's title. Since there is no proper opposition to impress mass audiences, the makers can take the advantage of it going on aggressive promotions.
After Venkat Prabhu, Rakshasudu was purely one man show. Really Suriya has done extraordinary job by showing variations between the two characters, successfully. As Masss and Siva, Suriya put his soul into the characters and made them look awesome. Especially, Suriya performance as Masss was superb.
Suriya will stun you as the menacing ghost!
Raisa Nasreen, Book My Show
'Rakshasudu' is Suriya's one man show. This charming actor shows why he is so highly rated and you will love him in 'Rakshasudu'. A good second half, interesting twists and good performances from the lead actors work in favour of this film. But before all that kicks in, you have to endure a bad first half and poor comedy. If you are looking for something new in the horror comedy genre, you may give this film a shot.
Venkat Prabhu gets them right to an extent, making us add another S – satisfying
Siddarth Srinivas, Only Kollywood
A one-man show by Suriya in two avatars, this one is a drag. You feel cheated because it is essentially a run-of-the-mill revenge story with an element from a Korean film thrown in.
“A lively and pacey movie that will tickle your bones and chill your spine”
PreethiBokka, Chirtamala
The CGI is a bit of a downer as the spirits disappear with a gold speckle that feels like a jewellery advertisement. Overall, Masss is certainly watchable, but a lingering feeling doesn’t seem to go away: what’s with this revenge and reckoning?

Venkat Prabhu came with a story to elevate Surya's image. However he failed to keep viewers captivated with gripping screenplay and direction. Though the first half is ok, second half pace slowed down considerably. The story was interesting but Venkat Prabhu dragged many scenes and tamil flavour put off viewers.
On the whole, Suriya’s ‘Rakshasudu’ is entertaining and interesting only in bits and pieces. The makers have ensured that it had all the commercial elements but failed to make it engaging for the audience. Given the fact that Suriya is a well established actor in South India, due credit should be attributed to him for his bold decision in selecting an unconventional subject. Suriya’s fans will thoroughly enjoy this typical horror genre but for the rest it is an average affair.
Massu Engira Masilamani is yet another trademark Venkat Prabhu entertainer

Rakashasudu which came amidst huge expectations disappointed many. There are many loopholes in story, screenplay. Narration is not perfect. Venkat Prabhu failed to present the story in perfect manner on screen. Surya did full justice to his roles. It will be huge overstatement if Surya expects hit from this film.

Business Of Tollywood
Rakshasudu has an interesting plot. But, its the narration that spoiled it. But, as the Suriya’s performance is terrific, his fans might be delighted to watch.
Horror comedies seem to be the flavour of the season
