Let’s face it, this tale was best left in the ruins
Rajeev Masand, Rajeev Masand
Ashutosh Gowarikar has a penchant for long drawn out epic tales. This time he goes to 2016 BC in order to tell a tale that is a bhelpuri or avial or stew or all of the above of everything from Star Wars to Gladiator to Moses to Noah to Hercules and everything in between. It starts out to be an interesting journey, but rapidly rolls towards a disaster (literally and figuratively) to a bedraggled end.
Manisha Lakhne, Now Running
Mohenjo Daro is stuck in the past and not just in terms of its substance. What the film clearly says is that both director Gowariker and Hrithik need to move on and reinvent themselves.
Hrithik Roshan takes this monumental epic to a new level

It beats me how so much time and effort can be spent on creating something meant to be jaw-dropping, but which leaves you sighing at the sheer waste of it all
Shubhra Gupta, Indian Express
There isn’t as much wrong with this film as the fact that you wonder what's good about it. By the end of the film, you will be spectacularly bored by this humourless spectacle. And the question in your head is less likely to be: 'What is going on?' and more likely to be, 'Why is this going on forever?'
Mayank Shekhar, Mid-Day
It breaks my heart to say this because so much talent and sweat is involved but Mohenjo Daro is a mess
Anupama Chopra, Film Companion
Ruined by anachronisms and bad acting
Suprateek Chatterjee, Huffington Post
Mohenjo Daro is a well-made film, just not very well thought out
Rachit Gupta, Filmfare
Director Ashutosh Gowariker’s history lesson isn’t authentic or engaging
Sneha May Francis, Emirates 24X7
An unintentional comedy

Even though Hrithik Roshan appears in almost every frame and brings his natural screen presence to the film, he is a shadow of his normal self, bogged down by a weak script, terrible production values and a lack of vision from the man who once made some of Bollywood’s grandest movies.

Straight away, if you want to enjoy Mohenjo Daro, leave your disbelief by the door for Ashutosh Gowarikar's newest blast from the past only works as a fairy tale, not nailed in history, but hanging somewhere between Game of Thrones and Baahubali.

Mohenjo Daro' is the worst film of director Ashutosh Gowarikar. One does appreciate the hard work and efforts behind this film. But at the end of the day, it's on the lines of all those historical T.V serials with bad C.G.I work and overstretched love saga ruining the history and facts.

Overall, “Mohenjo Daro” lights up the screen but only if it was crisp and thrilling.
Mounted like an epic with elements of romance, state politics and exodus, director Ashutosh Gowariker's Mohenjo Daro is loosely based on historical facts. Yet, the film has nothing to do with the history of the place which was abandoned and termed Mohenjo Daro, which means, mount of the dead, when it was rediscovered in the early 20th century

With so much going for it, the surprise is that “Mohenjo Daro” doesn’t live up to its potential. It’s good as spectacle, though it lacks the beauty of “Jodhaa Akbar,” and many viewers will feel short-changed on the musical numbers
