Standard Ram Gopal Varma horror dish, this. Better spend the ticket money on gaping at fried fish. Or better still, even eat it with a phoonk and knife.
Khalid Mohamed, Hindustan Times
The film fails to create a single scare even though the camera does slide into strange places focusing on all the stuffed toys and the ugly artefacts in the house and the soundtrack gets dizzy with ominous sounds.
Nikhat Kazmi, Times of India
Phoonk is tedious mumbo-jumbo.

Phoonk, as horror films go, is a decent one.

In a nutshell, Phoonk is amazing — technically speaking! But it falls short of fulfilling the promises it has made for a bone-chilling horror flick. There is nothing unique about the film, even if it does have good art direction and fine performances. Eve

On the whole the only horror release of the year disappoints. The poor direction in the first half lets the movie down. At the box-office the movie should recover its investments given its low budget and the curiosity the movie has managed to create.
