You know by now that the USP of the film, to beat all USPs, is that debut lead actor (and producer) Naseer Khan is blind and enacting a character with perfect vision.

Before we dissect the film, let's salute the grit, determination, willpower and courage of Nasser Khan, who enacts the protagonist’s role in Shadow.

All this would’ve made for perfect entertainment, was this a circus — an art-form we unfortunately lost to capitalism and cinema in the late ’80s. No harm still. We know several people with better eye-sights, and worse on-screen delusions about themselves

Shadow - All Reviews

Director Meher Ramesh sank Shadow with his screenplay and direction thus writing question marks on Venkatesh’s career. There are powerful punch liners but all failed to explode due to weak narration. Story has no strong point and many weak points that are glaring even to small kid. Shadow shocks with silver screen shockers!
Abysmal editing, it could be the work of a dilettante at best. Screenplay of Shadow is the only interesting part. The script fails after it was hyped up so much. Kona Venkat and Gopi Mohan probably didn't receive their royalties when they wrote the script. Meher Ramesh was extremely bad in Shakti and has not improved a bit for this movie. Producers should have invested in a better movie than this.
Better to brace the summer heat than face this ‘Shadow’
Great Andhra
Shadow is a film with Routine story. Except Venkatesh and Tapsee, Nothing good in the movie. If you are expecting entertainment, Skip this film. Only watch the film, If you are die hard fan of Mehar Ramesh/Venky. Else, skip the film!
I Luv Cinema
Entire first half, right from introduction of hero till the point of interval...nothing really worked positive. First few minutes of second half was easy to go with routine Kona, Gopi kind of word play doing the trick. Once Venky's real character is opened before his mother, rest is cliched. While writing department has done huge damage, spineless drama with uninvolved characters and a decomposed storyline further distressed.
Meher ramesh should concentrate on story rather than style.
As a Meher Ramesh's mark film, 'Shadow' Once again proves that Style without Substance doesn't work. But, huge money gone wasted on an inappropriate project. Meher scored yet another disastrous movie. It’s quite impossible for ‘Gabbar Singh’ also, to salve this project from becoming major disasters of Telugu.
Even the emotional scenes which are Venkatesh’s forte lacked the needed depth and impact. On the comedy front, the Gabbar Singh Antyakshari scenes including Venkatesh and MS Narayana might be a relief to few, while scenes showcasing Venky as a child, calling Tapsee as Aunty didn’t work at all, in fact they are terrible.

Stay away from Meher's Shadow!
We wonder if the movie will prove a hit at multiplexes
S Pankaj, Smash Hits
Despite the best efforts of Victory Venkatesh at ripe age and producer’s full freedom, Meher Ramesh delivers a substandard product. Its high time he realizes that story is the hero of any movie other than concentrating on foreign schedule, chopper shots and calling it stylish picturization.
Overall a below average flick for Venky.Am afraid, Venky may not get a block buster from the rest of his life as a solo hero. This Shadow is not worth watching @ all !!Am sure,You will forget your own Shadow after you watch this one.You can watch it though!! But @ your own RISK!!
Sachin Khedekar plays the quintessential corrupt politician well. As for Nasser, his act and dialogue delivery would make amateurs confident enough to try their luck in Bollywood. And yet, there is something about him that makes you curious enough to chec
Shadow has everything right going its way except a good screenplay, which is nothing but a blend of comedy and action getting misfired. The director has failed in executing his ideas in crispy way. However, it is good entertainer, which will appeal both class and mass audience. It is a must watch film for Venky fans

Poor direction from Meher Ramesh, all blame on him.The songs come at wrong time, make it more difficlut for the viewers to stand it.Comedy has been routine, nothing new.The sentiment scenes have no effect at all on the audience.Hero calling heroine aunty???? the logic went for a toss.
'Shadow' is a terrible film. Despite the presence of someone as talented as Venkatesh in the lead, poor direction and bad writing end up driving the film into the ground. Meher Ramesh must realise that style without substance will never work.
There are many things he needs to learn as a director if he still believes this is the right career for him. The key fundamentals of filmmaking are missing here and it is more like he has made a product for his own conviction and satisfaction without thinking a minute about the audience and their entertainment. Selecting grand locales, dressing up the entire cast in designer outfits, bringing in Choppers and shooting in foreign locations don’t make a good film. What it needs is a good plot to bank upon.
Even Venkatesh could'nt salvage Shadow

'Shadow' ends up to be a mere shadow of everything that the director wanted to do.  Even Venky is a shadow of his energetic and righteously emotional self in an illetched role.
India Glitz
Meher Ramesh direction is the biggest drawback for the movie. He failed in all aspects as a director. This is the storyline of early's 90's films in Telugu industry. Audience got bored watching this kind of films. Its a shock for Venky fans, how he accepted this subject and gave chance to Meher Ramesh. Meher Ramesh misused this opportunity to prove himself as a successful director. Kona Venkat who copied the scenes from other movies and made a Shadow script.
Shadow is an audio-visual slaughter of senses. If even 1/100th of the effort put to present Nagababu stylishly was put on the script, the film could have been infinitely better.
Mehar Ramesh doesn’t have any clue about where he is taking the script. The script is very old fashioned. It should have come some 20years back.Fights are too much and people will be shooting all around like mad.But Hero will be running away as if the opponents are throwing some flowers on him.
Shadow will become one of the worst flops in Venkatesh career. After this movie Mehar Ramesh needs to re access his directional skills. No one could save this ‘Shadow’ from disaster even the likes of Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu, NTR and Ram Charan. Strictly avoid ‘Shadow’ even if you need to sit idle and bite your nails!
'Shadow' may be a terrible film. Despite the presence of somebody as gifted as Venkatesh within the lead, poor direction and dangerous writing find yourself driving the film into the bottom. Meher Ramesh should realise that vogue while not substance can ne’er work.
From the time the film was gearing up for release many were skeptical about its success due to the overshot budget and mainly the director. True to those expectations, the film disappoints big time. The first fifteen minutes looked okay but after that the film turned out to be a boring game. The interval bang was not great.
Expecting some great piece of work from a flop director Meher Ramesh is the least thing a movie buff thinks off. But big guns like Venkatesh, Thaman, big producer Paruchuri kireeti there was small hope in Venki fans about shadow. First blow comes in the form of routine-predictable story and within 15 minutes movie plot is revealed to audience
He is truly that capable

‘Shadow’ is a terrible film. Despite the presence of someone as talented as Venkatesh in the lead, poor direction and bad writing end up driving the film into the ground. Meher Ramesh must realise that style without substance will never work.
Telugu Mirchi
when there is nothing new in the story, director needs to take a lot of care in screenplay and dialogues to make the film gripping. Meher Ramesh has once again failed in these departments. After an energetic and a well choreographed tittle song, audience will definitely expect a lot but leaving behind the production values, nothing seemed to be good.
Meher Ramesh direction and story is the main drawback of the movie. Victory Venkatesh gave his best performance here. He carries the film on his shoulders. He is looking fashionable in a most of the scenes. He is good in the fight sequences. Finally shadow is a below average film. Here Meher Ramesh Direction, Screen Play and Story are bad. It is not a worthy flick.
In the end, the film is too bad to be true and you end up thinking if you have been too harsh or too hasty in concluding that the film was terrible. It takes a lot of time and effort to forget that you have watched Shadow and in a bizarre way, it might be the biggest achievement of the film.
Meher Ramesh yet again proved that he can't make a successful film as director, his dragging slow narration, which test your patience is proof of his bad screenplay skills. Don't ask about Meher's dialogues, you will hardly find them in the movie.
Director Meher Ramesh is on the same track with revising all his movies with the same kind of scripts, where the proceedings can be predicted by movie lovers. The same old script with boring 1st half and dragging 2nd half will disappoint the audience as the story is predictable with weak and slow pace narration with no logic in the content.
Venkatesh did an okay job despite the poorly written character. He is in his elements in the action scenes and family related situations. He is good in comedy scenes as usual. Taapsee is average as the female lead. She appeared in an ultra glam role and that should please some eyes. Srikanth is fine as the cop.
The movie revolves around a guy taking revenge on an international don. Besides stunning action, the director has also included sister sentiment and a lot of comedy to woo Venkatesh's family audience. He has got good grip over the narration of whole show. The first half of the film is a laugh riot and Venkatesh tickles your funny bones as memory loss patient.
The problem with Shadow is not merely in the been-there-done-that kind of a story. Many mainstream films follow that path anyway. Pack in a few stunts, songs and comedy and you have a staple formula that ensures a decent opening at the box office. Director Meher Ramesh probably wanted to make a film high on style, where the action sequences are on par with Hollywood films.
The Hindu
Meher Ramesh failed in all aspects. Prasad Murella’s cinematography is poor and Marthand K Venkatesh’s editing is worst. SS Thaman background is not up to the mark. Kona Venkat story is worst. Action and stunt scens are looking like artifical. In Some scenes artists dubbing is like low grade movie. Production Values is worst.
Shadow gives big shock to 'Victory' Venkatesh. One gets the feeling Meher Ramesh has got the reputation to end the careers of famed stars.
Don’t know what’s the reason, whether casting is wrong or director has no stamina, Venky appears misfit for a dynamic role like this. The josh in fights designing is not visible in him. Even in songs, Venky just stood like that. It’s known how Venky performs in sentiment scenes. Some scenes as Chanti will bring laughs. Tapsee did whatever she was asked to do. Tapsee wore petty clothes, danced in an item song and freely exhibited her assets.
If you are too curious to watch a man without vision act wait for the DVD release. Not worth the price of your ticket.
Ashok Nayak, Now Running
Meher’s interview in the paper this morning said he would want producers who love and respect the medium. A few more films from him and people who love the medium might start funding the trust to be named ‘Keeping the Child Out’. He is truly that capable.
It's basically a big dumb revenge drama made with the usual accompaniments, watch it if you are in the mood for some lame fun.
The Times Of India
Shadow is nothing but black shadow that really does not have any substance. A seasoned actor like Venkatesh should have thought at least once before acting in a film like this. Well I do not blame Venky much here. What can he do if he is given bad direction and horrible story?
Even though the director tried his best to make the movie differently, he just couldn't do because most of the movie was similar compared to his another movie. Nothing new was shown in the movie except the actors.
A decent blend of all elements like romance, action, comedy and sentiment just as we expected from the movie, Shadow does a decent job. His entry begins with the punchy dialogue, 'Nenu evaru anedhi mystery, nanu catch cheyalante history, meeru chudaboyedhi naa victory'
