Ulavacharu Biryani - All Reviews

Ulavacharu Biryani is a very badly made recipe which tastes awful. You are promised a Biryani by Prakash Raj but you will be disappointed only to end up with a bad Kichidi.
This is a sort of screenplay based film written originally by Viji, T. Gnanavel has a different flavor of its own. In fact, it is hard to connect with mid life crisis of a bachelor who is into 45+ and a spinster into 35+. Yet when these characters begin to speak and behave, a decent contact is established with audience and thus is the network of other artists on screen. However, problem lied there on with pulling of crucial threads in an entertaining format without getting into a lagged mood. Here our writer Vallabha did not go much into the business.
Ulavacharu Biryani starts off with a song sequence where various food items are shown. This sequence is mouth watering and shows the director's love for food. The story takes some time to unfold and after the first confrontation of Sneha and Prakash Raj on phone, it gets interesting. There are some very good moments that will impress the lovers of romance genre.
Kalidasu [Prakash Raj] is archeologist by profession but he loves cooking. Gowri is an unmarried dubbing artist who lives with Meghana [Samyukta Homda]. Tired by work, Gowri accidentally calls Kalidasu thinking of him to be home delivery boy. With small misunderstanding, their relation eventually grows and one fine day both plan to meet up. However Kalidasu sends his son-in-law Tejas [Naveen] while Gowri sends Meghana. How these circumstances affect Kalidasu-Gowri love story and how they unite forms the plot

On the whole, Ulavacharu Biryani offers more or less the same ingredients as the original but the recipe isnt the same. If you have time to spare, and to access to internet, go with the original.
Ulavacharu Biryani hasn’t had much story which is on the similar lines of Lovely movie. It’s a screenplay based movie which need taut script but the second half has lots of unnecessary scenes and predictable proceedings. Prakash Raj though succeeded as actor fails to engage the audiences as director. All in all, Ulavacharu Biryani has some beautiful moments but the slow paced second half turns out to be a spoiler to this matured love story
Matured subject and fine performances but only for select audience
Ulavacharu Biryani lacks the special ingredients to taste it [to watch]. However for fresh story can be watched once with little bit of patience.
I have not seen the original film Salt n’ Pepper. What worked for me in the film are Prakash Raj’s outstanding performance and Ilayaraja’s mellifluous music. This film is a romantic comedy with the backdrop of food. And you might feel hungry while watching this film as so much of variety of food is shown in the film. First half of the film is nice, but second half should have been well handled. Ulavacharu Biryani is a speciality film. If you like concept/niche films like these, it is worth giving a try for Prakash Raj and Ilayaraja.
Draggy narration, non-relevant Adivasi episode are working against the film. Screenplay could have been better and little-more brooding over the script would have overturned the fortunes of the film.Brahmaji's sequence could have been conceived well. As the movie progresses towards the end, it turn out predictable. Save few laughs in the first half and romance of young couple in the second half, the film is a good one-time watch.
‘Ulavacharu Biryani’ is just a time pass film and watch it if you have enough time
I Luv Cinema
An important ingredient is missing in this remake that seems to have lost some of its original magic as the filmmaker tried to tailor it to the Telugu palette
Karthik Pasupulate, The Times of India
Prakash Raj though the film chose to highlight the feelings of unmarried people as their age grows up. The story is nothing new and everything is predictable right from the beginning. He came with routine script and many are left to wonder as 'Ulavacharu Biryani' is not referred anywhere in the film
For a slow and soothing movie lover, Ulavacharu Biryani is the right choice but if you are expecting for masala and speed, then Sorry It's Not Your Cup of Tea !!!

It all begins on a promising note. Kalidas is an archaeologist who has apparently not felt the need to marry, too busy as he has been with his research and intellectual pursuit. Gowri (Sneha) is a dubbing artiste who doesn't care much about her single status except when some friend in her life pokes her nose into her life. If Kalidas is portrayed as someone who gives two hoots for marriage (he laughs it away when a friend asks him to go to a potential match's house) while Gowri may be living in denial about her latent loneliness.
On the whole, Ulavacharu Biryani has its moments of class and uniqueness. But the entire second half, and some flavorless pace spoils the fun. Released in three languages, this film might find a few takers in Tamil and Kannada, but for Telugu audience who are used to the regular masala entertainment will not savoir this slow and mature love story.
Overall, the film is good in bits and pieces but it’s definitely not the ‘Typical weekend entertainer’

In any case One-time eatable Biryani with Family,Children
While director-actor Prakash Raj manages to capture the nuances of a middle-aged couple, he fails to ignite the passion between the younger couple. It is obvious that Prakash Raj did not bother to understand the younger generation before coming up with the characters of Tejas and Samyuktha. On the other hand, he etches out the interactions between himself and Sneha beautifully.
There are many unnecessary and forcible scenes in the second half, which have to be avoided completely. In addition, the pace of the film is also slow which made the proceedings too boring.
'Ulavacharu Biryani' is decent family entertainer with high comedy quotient
Shekhar, Oneindia Entertainment
Though this film has the ingredients to make a super dish, the recipe (read storyline) is not good enough. The final outcome is bland. Overall Ulavacharu Biryani doesn’t really impress. With performers like Prakash Raj and Sneha, and music by Ilayaraja this film doesn’t pass muster
Telugu Cinema
Prakash Raj chose a routine story but created stunning impact with his performance as a actor. He however failed to achieve perfection with his direction and screenplay. He left manythings unanswered like tribals issue and corporate experiments on tribals and political connection. Had he connected his love story and his archaelogical issues etc, the film would have created powerful impact. However he chose to concentrate only on highlighting human emotions. Lack of commercial elements, weak screenplay and direction undid his excellent performance as a actor.
Ulavacharu Biryani Looks so Delicious and mouth watering but not Tastey Missing some Ingredients If you like Slow narration and Feel good movies You will Like it But dont expect Masala and spicy things
'Ulavacharu Biryani' lacks the special ingredients to taste it (to watch)

The movie is meant to be a light-hearted entertainer. It’s nothing serious – no big plots, no big twists, but plain old common sense and dollops of good old fun.The film centres around food and for a society that is so fond of food, this genre of cinema doesn’t taste well. Even though the Director made all arrangements to weave together taste, flavor and love to make an exquisite recipe for good cinema, he failed to cook it well as he served a taste-less Biryani.
If you are a food lover, just go and watch the movie ..just for some new recipes and some good musical by Ilayaraja and lovely visuals by Preetha. Otherwise, do not try this half baked Biryani. It might spoil your health.
